A dramatic event this morning ~ as our neighbors at 1040 N. State St. (Newberry Plaza) had a severe fire at 8 AM. The fire was quickly put out by firefighters🧑‍🚒, although we haven’t heard if anyone was injured.

1150 N. LaSalle is festive, despite being gutted on the inside as it undergoes renovation. Built in 1889, it has spent 100+ years as flats, a rooming house, and a hotel for Japanese Americans released from U. S. internment camps post WWII. It’s now a single family residence.

Although today is the official start of autumn 🍂, we’re posting a favorite photograph of Alma & Zachary Taylor Davis’ daughter Mary Louise, taken after a snowstorm. She is standing in front of the family home at 934 East 45th Street in Kenwood, c. 1934.

Although not mentioned in the portfolio, the building was designed by architects Fugard & Knapp and completed in 1919. We are happy to report that the "rooftop bungalow" still exists, now billed as a penthouse, with 4000 ft.² of living space and a 2000 square-foot terrace.
