A principal once shared with me two intangibles he looks for in candidates when hiring:
1. Are they passionate about kids?
2. Are they coachable with a desire to learn and grow?
He said the rest will take care of itself...
A school where every person, no matter their role, can bring their authentic self to work everyday, is a school that is going to thrive.
Authenticity is a superpower.
Teachers are leaders. Support staff are leaders. The cafeteria staff are leaders. Custodians are leaders. Bus drivers are leaders. The technology staff are leaders. Nurses are leaders. Students are leaders. They all have influence and make a difference.

A teacher mentor who has since passed away told me to always remember three things in school leadership:
1. Love kids.
2. Take care of the adults.
3. Have fun.
I talked to a teacher recently about a new student who was struggling behaviorally. She confidently said, "he just needs a little time and love." She was 💯 spot on.
Discipline may reach a child for a moment, but relationships reach a child's heart & have a lasting impact.
Today is the one year anniversary of the release of my book, Leading With A Humble Heart!
As a small token of my appreciation, I’m giving away 7 copies. 🙏

A principal I worked with shared the following with me when I was working as AP:
“If as school leaders we don’t take the time to empathize and have compassion on our staff, how do we expect them to do the same with the students in their classrooms.”
Sports taught me so much growing up.
Here are 10 Lessons Sports Taught Me About Leadership.
How about you? Which ones do you relate to? What would you add?
Five simple things principals should do every day:
1. Greet kids at the door
2. Smile in the hallways with fist bumps and high fives
3. Be present in the cafeteria
4. Ask kids about their work in the classroom
5. Say bye to the kids as they leave for the day
I was talking to the custodian after school today and he said, “I just try to give my best every day.”
What an awesome attitude and approach to his day.
Growing up, my mom would write out Bible verses on index cards and leave them on my nightstand.
They mean even more to me now. I still keep them on my nightstand.
I’ve found as a principal that when I’m feeling frustrated with a student - sometimes the best thing I can do is just go eat lunch with them in the cafeteria and talk about anything but school.
It reframes my perspective quickly.
Ever since this awesome kindergartener found out I’m going to be his little league baseball coach this spring…he pretends to swing a baseball bat every time he sees me!

I heard a principal speak recently and throughout the entire presentation she said “our school” not “my school” when talking about where she serves as principal.
It’s the little things…
I’ve learned so much and met so many wonderful people over the past five and a half years in Manheim Central and Warwick. But, home is where the heart is.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to return home as principal of Providence Elementary School.
Go Solanco!
A mentor once told me, "You have no business leading a school if you're not leading your family first."
Don't miss leading the people right in front of you.
A former superintendent of mine challenged me to reflect on the following questions between Christmas and the New Year.
I’d encourage you to do the same.
As part of our faculty meeting today, teachers created their One Word signs for 2024 that will be laminated and placed outside their classrooms!
