Highlights from Last Week’s York Mosque Madrasah Award Ceremony 2024! We had a fantastic day of pride and celebration last week! 🎉 It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise our students for their dedication, hard work, and achievements.

Sadly, through a rumour spread on social media, the grief of the community in Southport has been hijacked by the EDL resulting in the attack of a mosque in Southport, escalating into rioting, injuries to several Police officers as well as fires to various properties.

• ⁠we are also looking for volunteers who can help with security, especially during busy times such as jumuah salah. If you can help, please contact a member of the committee.

• ⁠If you see any suspicious behaviour around the mosque, please report it to the imam or member of the community. If outside the mosque, call for help or the police.

⁠The mosque doors will continue to be closed after the programmed opening and closing times In addition, we recommend: • Please avoid travelling on your own, especially when it is dark.

There will be added safeguarding measures, including the closing of the main gates during Madrasa and youth activities. Where children’s activities are taking place indoors out of prayer times, there will be no access to unauthorised personnel.

In light of these events, we would like to reassure members of the York community that the committee is taking steps to increase security whilst maintaining open access to the mosque.

We strongly condemn these crimes and pray for a peaceful resolution to enable the families effected to grieve in peace and to come to terms with their loss.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families who lost their loved ones, those who were at the party and were injured, those who witnessed the stabbings, the emergency services who responded to the emergency, the peaceful community of Southport and the wider UK population.

Many of you will be aware of the mindless attacks by an individual at a children’s party in Southport on Monday which led to the murder of three young girls as well as several children and adults injured by the perpetrator.

If the mosque car park is full, you can use the car park at Lidl to park your car there, which is only few minutes walk from the mosque. They have kindly allowed people to park there for up 2 hours. Jazakum Allahu Khayran for your understanding and cooperation

The council will be issuing PCN for cars parked illegally and the police may impound your car if it is blocking the road. Please try to walk to the masjid or car share if possible.
