The surrender of 2389 military personnel in Laukkai, including six Brigadier General commanders, marks the largest surrender in the history of Myanmar's military.
A photo of Two Karenni teenagers who fought against the junta raised Three-fingers, reportedly after being arrested and tortured by the Myanmar military, on their knees, before being cold-bloodedly murdered.
Two years after the coup, the Burmese people are still determined to reject the military regime. Amid threats, people participated in the silent strike against the military rule. Photos show usually congested roads with no traffic and normally bustling markets with no customers.
Burmese people will carry out "Silent Strike" against the military junta during 10 am - 4 PM on Dec 10. Even hawkers and workers, who live on the daily income, told me that they will join the strike without going out. The Burmese people are standing firmly against the junta.
Myanmar's military regime arrested nearly 100 people for wearing, holding, and selling flowers on June 19, Aung San Suu Kyi's birthday. Instead of armed resistance, some advocated for revitalizing the political process in Myanmar. The regime couldn't even tolerate people wearing…
The video depicts student activists, led by Nan Lin, courageously staging a flash protest in a Yangon bazaar despite serious risks. The local news reported that the following day, the cruel junta demolished that bazaar.
Myanmar's military perpetrated the most heinous crime. The barbaric army staged a helicopter attack on an elementary school in Depeyin, Sagaing Region, killing nine children, and wounding over twenty. I can't bear to hear a survivor's recounting of that hellfire incident.
In the morning, the junta's chief met and cut a cake together with Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, a Burmese Catholic prelate. At night, the junta's soldiers are brutally launching airstrikes at the Laykaykaw, where most Christian civilians live.
Despite being neglected by U.S. Summit for Democracy, Burmese people are fighting for their democratic future on their own. People are now waging a silent strike against the junta across the country. Roads are clear, markets and shops closed, & businesses not in operation today.
Unsurprisingly, Myanmar's military junta supported Russia's invasion into Ukraine. The junta's spokesperson said that "Russia's invasion is an appropriate measure to preserve its sovereignty".
This photo clearly shows how Myanmar's military has destroyed villages in Sagaing Region where the anti-junta forces are active. Air, artillery and arson attacks are daily launched by the junta's military in those villages.
It's been a year now since I left Burma. This is the most depressing moment in my life. The only relief is that I've the chance to keep researching and writing. I've written some op-ed, papers and reports within this year. Below are the links to my writings since my departure.
Please check out my new piece, "Myanmar Military's culture of atrocities." I think, "The military’s most recent atrocities are thus not an aberration but rather a historical pattern emanating from its institutional culture," and I tried to explore it.
Myanmar junta suffers from a serious lack of international recognition. So far, it has just received messages of felicitations from only five countries - all its congenial parish states and weapon sellers, Russia, Cambodia, Belarus, Serbia and North Korea.
According to local media reports, the entire battalion of Light Infantry Battalion 430 from the Myanmar military has defected to the resistance side. The defected battalion comprises approximately 100 soldiers and is led by Commander Lt. Col. Zar Ni Aung.
This video records Karenni resistance troops raiding military outpost in Moebye. Notably, the individual seen dashing first to the enemy base wears a prosthetic leg, having lost it in a previous battle.

My new piece "Finding Fault Lines within the Tatmadaw"
A steady increase in defections and desertions since the coup amid plunging morale has some questioning whether unity can be maintained within the Tatmadaw,
After reading Mary's article about Burmese education, I pondered how uneducated Generals destroyed the education system. In 3 months of the 1962 coup, Brigadier Than Pe, who was then in charge of education, proclaimed that Burmese education would be rooted up. Indeed, they did.
The combined forces of the KNU and PDFs launched simultaneous attacks against three military battalion headquarters in Kya-in Seik Gyin in Karen State yesterday. This photo shows resistance forces at a battalion gate, after destroying buildings inside.
Given their fragmented nature and rapid development, the PDFs remain a mystery to most analysts and international policymakers. I tried to understand the latest development of the PDF in my new piece.
Understanding the People’s Defense Forces in Myanmar
In Burma, people are putting their lives at risk every day for restoration of democracy. In the recent article, Lucas Myers and I wrote US should invite representatives of the NUG to Summit for Democracy. But, no representation from the NUG there. Why is Biden missing on Myanmar?
I reiterated the junta has no plan to hold elections at the promised time. Less than 6 months after the coup, the junta extended its rule for extra year and half. Now, it said that organization of elections depends on the cooperation of the people & the international community.
According to my sources, twenty-two battalions of the Myanmar military surrendered in Laukkai ROC. Initially, there were 27 battalions deployed there, but before the surrender, resistance forces overran five battalions, leaving the remaining force at 22.
My new piece published by the USIP!
Many policymakers in the international community tend to view Myanmar’s junta through the prism of their own experience as government actors beholden to a constituency and national interest. No matter how bloodstained …
In Burma, people continue anti-junta resistance by banging pots and pans tonight. Soldiers are also committing horrific violence, destroying cars, shooting at civilian neighborhood and arresting people. A young man jumped from his five-storey apartment in fear of being arrest.
The coup leader Min Aung Hlaing came and met NLD party's patron U Tin Oo in Yangon today. U Tin Oo, wearing the Pinni Taikpon jacket and the NLD party brooch, met him. Min Aung Hlaing also reportedly met the notorious former military intelligence chief Khin Nyunt today.
Some in the international community seem to believe that they can convince Myanmar's brutal military to end its rule. The execution case clearly shows the Myanmar Sit-Tat won't listen to others, but only run by their own logic. They are turning the country into "Murder Republic."
My response to the Yusuke Watanabe's article "On Myanmar, Japan Alone Must Hold the Line" published on the National Interest at December 11. I am trying to deconstruct a skyful of lies by the junta's apologists in this article.
Reports indicate that numerous outbreaks of attacks by various resistance forces have occurred in multiple areas of Myanmar, from Kachin and Shan to Karen, this morning. It seems that the coordinated and simultaneous attacks have been orchestrated by the resistance forces.
The latest news from Myanmar is that Russian Deputy Defense Minister will visit to Myanmar to attend the Armed Forces Day parade, organized by the junta, as he did last year. It is another sign of an autocratic alignment between Russia and the junta.

She posted that her husband was released at 8:15 pm on 19-10-2021, and taken back into detention 45 minutes later. She wrote sadly that she did not have a chance to hug her husband. Myanmar's junta has been playing a ruthless game of "the release and arrest".
A 17-year-old activist was reportedly shot dead by soldiers for hanging anti-junta poster in Yangon today. People remain committed to nonviolent struggle, even after a year of coup. But the junta's deadly, brutal repression has led them to no other option than armed resistance.
Myanmar was overwhelmed with the slogan "Our Revolution must win" instead of "Happy New Year" at the time of New Year. People have again demonstrated their will against the military junta.
The photo shows the NUG’s flag of people revolution raised in front of the General Administration Office in Kawlin, meaning their control over the town in Upper Sagaing. The swift capture of Kawlin has surprised many, including possibly even commanders of the resistance there.

The junta's military is extensively launching airstrikes in Sagaing Region, and it has started helicopter attacks at the Laykaykaw, Karen state, today.
Save the Children also issued a statement about the junta's helicopter attacks on elementary school, and my question for this statement is who perpetrated that deadly attack on school. Why did these organizations fail to mention the perpetrator?
This is a brilliant illustration of just how stupid and morally bankrupt are the arguments of people pushing Ukraine to negotiate with russia. You cannot negotiate with someone who came to kill you.

The junta's aerial bombardment on the KIO/KIA's event in Hpakant killed many people, including KIA officials and Kachin celebrities. Increased air strikes, some not reported, have been observed recently and as monsoon recedes, the junta's air attacks have greatly risen.
Some of Myanmar's neighbors continue selling aviation fuel to the military, despite a sharp rise in the number of innocent civilians killed by ruthless airstrikes across the country. By fueling killing machines, they become complicit in the Myanmar military's war crimes.
