I use the word “disingenuous” because the term “creative” seems meant to create the illusion of centering whatever art/media is being “created” when it’s clearly just a description of a demographic that was invented in a corporate boardroom.

Also it feels disingenuous because the rise of the term just so happened to coincide with the rise of artists being hyper targeted as a customer base with predatory scams like subscription software, overpriced rooms in hip downtown areas marketed as “creative spaces” etc.

I think it’s because “creative” implies that you’re “creating” something, and in this era, it’s presumably for the sake of monetization. Being an “artist” doesn’t necessarily come with that same implication.
I don’t care how popular it becomes, how ubiquitous, I will never stop resenting the slow and universal replacement of the word “artist” with “creative” - it is so insidious, to me.

IIRC, before the LA Weekly went to shit they did a list of LA’s greatest producers and put Quik #1 with the idea that he’s uniquely ‘ours’ whereas Dre is a generally great producer whose sound is for ‘everybody.’ Not that either is a bad thing but I understood the sentiment.
