Students at WHEC were visited by Raven Ridge Wildlife Center after reading “A Boy Called Bat.” They learned about skunks, owls, and Raven Ridge’s mission to help injured, orphaned, and abandoned wildlife.

In Mrs. Darr's ninth-grade English class, students enhanced their communication skills by commenting on each other's symbolism projects. Each project required selecting a symbol that represented the student personally, and students created a poster with a detailed explanation.

In celebration of Johnny Appleseed's birthday, Mrs. Gallen's first-grade class engaged in apple-themed art activities, using apples to stamp and create designs. The event was a joyful tribute, filled with laughter and the sweet scent of apples.

In class with Mr. Kaufmann, seventh-grade math students use calipers, precision tools for measuring dimensions, to master the concept of scale drawings. This hands-on approach helps them understand proportional relationships and real-world applications of geometry.

A team of six students, guided by Dr. Liskey, is working on the 2025-2026 Governor's STEM project to create a enhanced white cane for the visually impaired. Their "e-cane" will detect obstacles through vibrations, enhancing environmental awareness without direct contact.

In French 5/AP, students demonstrated the WEDDINGS acronym by organizing a "wedding". This acronym helps recall when to use the French subjunctive mood, expressing doubt and emotions. Each student made a two-minute speech using the subjunctive, assuming wedding guest roles.

In Ms. Mitchell’s culinary class, students celebrated a successful five day week by making avocado toast. This project combined cooking with linguistic learning, exploring synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms, culminating in a “toast to avocado toast.” Amazing lesson!

Wyo5Live is a student-run morning news broadcast at the Jr./Sr. High School. Student news anchors start the day sharing updates on school events, sports, and activities. Other students manage the cameras, scriptwriting, and audio, creating an engaging and informative broadcast.

🌻 Learning is blooming at WHEC! Using portable microscopes, students harvested sunflower seeds, shared observations in class with Dr. Wengerd, and then headed outside to study flowers, seeds, insects, and more in the WHEC garden. Thank you WAEF for supporting this project!
