Stone has a mute near the beginning of the word that then is softened by a vowel. Rock ends with the mute k. That k "suddenly stops the breath. it feels very different from the -one ending of stone. From "A Poetry Handbook" by Mary Oliver.

What is the difference between a rock & a stone? . In my mind's eye I see the weather-softened roundness of stone, the juts and angled edges of rock. 1/2.

The one thing you should read: .Chapter 4: Music. In this chapter, Wilbers writes about pace and rhythm in a way that I began to believe I might be understanding it. 3/?.

Keys to Great Writing by Stephen Wilbers is a textbook for writing in high school / college students, or business people. Wilbers includes a ton of points relevant to anyone who writes, but if you want to write a novel, this book would not be the best book for you. 1/?.

is detailed. If I weren’t writing a book about writing, I wouldn’t have finished this book. Does it matter whether I know what an appositive is? Yes, if I am a teacher. No, if I am a writer. This book is for Financial Times readers. Finally, First You Write a Sentence by Moran. .

How to Write a Sentence. There are facts in it, but the focus is really for people who want a introduction to thinking about sentences. It’s like reading USA Today for finance news. Tufte’s book. .
