It’s our FIRST ever league meeting against Middlesbrough! Wrexham have only played away at ‘Boro once in our history in a League Cup game in 1972. Nobby Stiles playing and @billyashcroft9 - who of course would go on to join ‘Boro. Also, it was Dave Smallman’s Wrexham debut.

REFEREE WATCH Middlesbrough v Wrexham The man in the middle will be Steve Martin from Staffordshire. Steve is known for his no-nonsense approach. He was last in charge of us in our 3-0 win over Exeter in November and booked 11 players in a game at The Riverside last season.

OTD 1993 Wrexham 3-1 Cardiff City 32 years ago today, the Welsh rivals met at the The Racecourse. Both teams had been promoted the previous season, but had a struggled start to life in the third tier. Mark Taylor scored twice, with Benno adding. Bird got a late consolation.

OTD 1864 Wrexham 1-2 Prince of Wales Volunteer Fire Brigade Today in 1864, the first ever match was played by Wrexham AFC. It was a 10-a-side game against the local fire brigade played at The Racecourse, with the players getting changed at The Turf. 161 years of history ⚽️

OTD 2000 Wrexham 1-0 Swansea City L1 25 years ago today, our first league meeting with the Swans in five seasons after their recent promotion. On-loan striker Chris Killen got the only goal and Mike Howard was sent off late on. Steve Watkin was in the visitors starting XI.

OTD 2015 10 years ago today, Gary Mills took his Wrexham squad to Llandegla for some shooting practice - quite literally. The activity day involving some clay pigeon shooting, was a midweek team bonding session. We lost 1-0 to Gainsborough a few days later. 📸 @welshphotoguy

OTD 1990 Wrexham 2-2 Hartlepool Utd 35 years ago, a very young Wrexham side hosted HUFC. Smith gave the visitors the lead before Beaumont and Worthington put us ahead. 19yo @donhutch4 came off the bench to equalise with his last goal for Pools - who went on to win promotion.

Wrexham’s visit to Stoke City at the Bet365 stadium was the 12th biggest attendance we’ve ever played in front of in the Football League. It was the third highest for us this season. Middlesbrough away on Saturday is expected to be a similar attendance.
