We appreciate the community is keen to know more about the future of Woolwich Exchange and we will share a further update when we are able to.

@Royal_Greenwich has recently written to local businesses and site owners to update them on the project's progress and the potential programme for acquiring properties on the site.

These challenges have contributed to a slowdown in development across London, including at Woolwich Exchange. We are proactively exploring various ways with @Royal_Greenwich to overcome these challenges and make progress on site as soon as possible.

This delay is due to several factors which have had a significant impact on development nationwide, including responding to new building safety regulations and build cost inflation, creating deliverability challenges.

The main reason for this is changes to building safety regulations introduced by the government; we have been exploring the best way of delivering this high-quality development to comply with these new regulations. (5/6).

Construction was due to commence in May 2024, but we have now revised the expected start date to May 2025. (4/6).

Planning permission was granted for Woolwich Exhange by @Royal_Greenwich in 2021. Since then, we've been working alongside the council through the pre-construction phase of the project. Work is also ongoing with businesses in the area about their options for relocation. (3/6).

Woolwich Exhange is a major regeneration scheme in the town centre. It will transform the former covered market and the area between Plumstead Road and Spray Street into an exciting new destination in the heart of Woolwich. (2/6).
