“At this restaurant, there’s a good chance you won’t get what you ordered, but that’s not considered a problem. All the servers at the Restaurant of Mistaken Orders are living with dementia, and customers are nothing but supportive and accepting.” 🥰

I'm giving a CV workshop soon. What big mistakes should students avoid? What have you seen grad applicants do that make them stand out? General advice is welcome, even if you're not specifically in psych! #AcademicTwitter #psychtwitter #AcademicChatter

I'll be teaching Psychology as a Profession this fall and wanted an excellent resource for my students, and after failing to find a website with everything I wanted, I made my own. So, it's not fancy, but it has a wealth of amazing resources all in one place. Without ads. :)

I'm working on finalizing an open source qualitative methods manual to use with my graduate course as my main summer writing project. A student and I extended Ponterotto's (2006) transferability tree analogy, and I didn't want to wait to share. #qualitativemethods

Are there other ways you have been able to harness AI to make course design easier? Or additional ethical concerns you think I should be considering?

With that being said, editing is substantially less time consuming than building materials from the ground up. I won't be able to use it to help with all the materials needed for the course due to copyright/confidentiality concerns, but I am taking advantage where I can.

I consider everything designed by ChatGPT a draft and am editing the materials accordingly. I am also trying to be cognizant of whether materials are open-access or not, so I am not submitting information with copyright/confidentiality concerns.

Third, I asked for help drafting a set of PowerPoint slides for a short article I copied and pasted into ChatGPT (said article is open-access). I used the following prompt before pasting the content, "Design PowerPoint slides based on the following information."

Second, I asked for help drafting a set of multiple-choice and true/false questions, as well as a corresponding answer key (this is a large 140 student section). The material I wanted help with is publicly available. Prompt with alt text provided in attached image.

First, I asked for help getting an initial draft of an assignment rubric. It provided me with an assignment objective, step-by-step instructions for students, and a breakdown of how students will be evaluated/graded. Prompt with alt text provided in attached image.

I am designing a new course for the fall (Psychology Careers course), and have found several ways to harness the power of AI to minimize how time intensive this work can be. Here are a few things ChatGPT has helped me with this week, a thread. @AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter

More work definitely needs done in the field of psychology to help students understand career options with a bachelor’s degree. Here is a poster with current job titles for psych degree holders!
Just found out that getting a Bachelors degree in Psychology is basically useless because you need a Masters degree in Psychology to even counsel. Opt for a Social Work degree instead of a degree in Psychology if you’re looking to get involved in the field w just a bachelors.
