Good to have a level head in DC trying to avoid the shutdown.
I’ve said it a hundred times: “Shutdowns are stupid.” South Dakotans deserve to have their federal government working for them. Senate Democrats need to stop playing games and pass the clean spending extension we passed out of the House. I'm calling on South Dakotans to make

I'm sick over the murder of Charlie Kirk. He spoke clearly about the path to true happiness: through family, faith, and fulfillment. I'll be watching his videos for years to come. God rest his soul and comfort his family.

Mike Diedrich was a true gentleman. He worked for his family and his neighbors tirelessly and always with a smile on his face. RIP, my friend.
South Dakota lost one of our all time greats with the passing of Mike Diedrich. He was quick to share his faith and love for his family. He made South Dakota a better place and he brought out the best in those that served with him. Our prayers are with Connie and the family.

Over the past few months, I’ve had countless conversations with friends, neighbors, and community leaders who care deeply about the future of our country. I’ve listened carefully, reflected deeply, and had long talks with my family. And today, I’m ready to make an announcement.

Not since Janklow has someone proposed a property tax cut of this scale. This plan will make housing more affordable and provide massive property tax relief for South Dakotans WITHOUT forcing cuts on counties and schools that rely on property taxes. Attaboy, @Tony_Venhuizen.
I hear more about property taxes from my constituents than any other issue, by far. This is the year for major property tax relief for South Dakotans. This coming session, I am sponsoring legislation to cut property taxes for homeowners by an average of 35%. Sen. Randy Deibert

IM28 would make South Dakota the only state in the nation that doesn't tax tobacco at all. It would force massive funding cuts to schools, nursing homes, and law enforcement. It's a terrible draft of a costly idea. SD should reject the Tobacco Tax Repeal this November.

The Attorney General, in the state's official explanation, acknowledges that the measure goes far beyond food and drinks and specifically points out the impact on tobacco revenues.

So, IM 28 would repeal all taxes on everything from tobacco to toothpaste to candy to paper products and everything in between. The proponents have been misleading the media and public by calling it a "food tax repeal," when it actually goes far beyond that.

Black's Law Dictionary, the gold standard for legal definitions, defines "consumption" to be "the act of destroying a thing by using it; the use of a thing in a way that exhausts it."

The measure is short, and reads as follows: "the state may not tax the sale of anything sold for human consumption, except alcoholic beverages and prepared food."

South Dakota has a ballot measure to exempt all products that humans consume from taxation. The measure (IM 28) would repeal all taxes on tobacco! Here's why 👇🏽 (thread below)

I want to see state funding increases for K12 to go into teachers’ pockets. If the state gives schools 4%, schools should give teachers 4%. That’s what the House bill would do.

There are only two states where teacher pay is still below $50,000 a year: Mississippi and South Dakota.

Living in SD, we’re a long way from the border. But we are short-sighted if we think the mass influx of immigrants across our southern border does not affect us. @WillMortenson, @CrabtreeCasey and I wrote an op-ed about our recent visit to the border.
