Coin of the Day: Today we’re shining the spotlight on this rare 1792 Half Disme graded NGC XF 40 and pedigreed to “Col.” E.H.R. Green and the Eric P. Newman Collection. The 1792 Half Disme is widely considered to be the first US coinage struck under the Coinage Act of 1792.

All U.S. coinage is produced with what is commonly called a “coin turn.” That means that the reverse side (tails) of the coin is upside down to the obverse side (heads). The Mint still produces coinage in this manner for traditional reasons; not due to any legal requirement.
