The team has been making bespoke oars for our boat. Here we see varying thicknesses that were achieved by hand with Mihai's eye for detail. We can't wait to test these in the near future!

There were some busy scenes at the stone carving shelter today as the Douglas-Ewart High School took on some relief carving challenges. Proving that masons have been on this site for a very long time, an unusual mason's mark was found in a pile of garden stone!

These two rather handsome chimney breasts in green granite are rigs which Gregor and Rory have been working on, to create full size simulations for trainees learning to point those narrow ashlar joints - which will be required as part of formal certificated learning in masonry.

Despite the rain, Rebuilders from the Douglas-Ewart High School were at work, repairing their future workshop, which had dilapidated walls and a collapsed roof only weeks ago!

The team of masons have made an exciting discovery at 9 High Street : a graffiti date of 1798, which takes the house back to an earlier date than was supposed - we had initially supposed the house dated from the early 19th Century.

Just as the rains may return, the team have created a roof for their stonework shelter, out of "gutters" made of larch and hollowed out by them, with assistance from the Douglas-Ewart High School.

To mark the route through the woods, the team have installed countryside waymarkers on posts, as this area can be quite well grown with bracken and foliage, so it will keep walkers on the right track. #walkthewhithornway All Roads Lead to Whithorn
