3. Diversity: what you might get is better control in submission and people who are organised/diligent, but sometimes you might miss those chaotic academics that have great ideas (I am not one of them!).

2. Cognitive load: realise that this might be your job as a funder, but it is 1 of N jobs for academics. We are just overwhelmed by information/demands. Missing a form deadline by a few days should not be a kill switch. It might be fair and transparent, but not best practice?

1. Collaborations take time: if you want credible forms filled, then realise collaborations can take time to develop. With short deadlines (~1-2 months), if you gate keep half way, you are asking people to be mentally ready in half the time - not always how research develops...

Lately, I am seeing more research grant gatekeeping forms (e.g., fill survey X days ahead of deadline or be ineligible), which of course have their own reasons for managing demand & workload. For funders @UKRI_News and hubs @responsibleaiuk, here are the problems to consider:
