In March, UWAS staff and students hosted several distinguished guests at the Officers Mess at MoD St Athan. Guests included: Wg Cdr Morris (OC 35(T) Wing 6 FTS), Maj Stockman (Wales UOTC Regimental 2IC), Lt Davies (Wales URNU CO) and Wg Cdr Wedlake (Stn Cdr MoD St Athan).

Today, UWAS hosted Air Cdre Andrew Dickens (OC RAFC) and Gp Capt Rob Caine (Comdt 6 FTS) as part of the Annual Formal Inspection at St Athan. The guests were given a tour of the Squadron prior to attending the AVM Gray Presentation delivered by 5 UWAS students.

Green Mile Training Camp This weekend, 10 UWAS students attended the Green Mile Training Camp in Cardiff. The team completed a series of adventure training tasks, including an assault course, rope climbs, sandbag runs and various survival skills.

Last week 13 UWAS students completed an Easter Camp alongside 7 students from @SouthamptonUAS joining on activities on both Monday and Tuesday. Adventurous Training activities included a visit to the Search & Rescue Station at St Athan and a Sports Competion against SUAS!

Last weekend APO Jamie North represented UWAS at the @rafmountaineer Festival of Climbing in the Peak District. Jamie managed to get to the final for his climbing category. Well done to Jamie!

Easter Camp 1 Last week 5 students completed an Easter camp at MOD St Athan. Various AT activities included a visit to the Search and Rescue station at St Athan, a bouldering session in Cardiff, an orienteering exercise in the Brecon Beacons and Gorge Walking at Pontneddfechan.

Last week several of our students took part in a basic Kayaking course on the River Ely in South Wales. There were opportunities to head down the rapids course at the International White Water centre in Cardiff, completing capsizing and rescue drills!

Last week, 7 UWAS students joined up with students from BUAS and SUAS as part of Ski MIOT 22 in Les Contamines-Montjoie, France. Students undertook the Ski Foundation 1 course, learning the basics for how to use basic equipment and getting to grips with the terrain.

Five students attended the Annual UAS Symposium and Dinner at RAFC Cranwell last week. Several esteemed guests attended the dinner, including Comdt 6FTS Gp Capt Rob Caine and Comdt RAFC Cranwell Air Cdre Andrew Dickens.

Last week, APO Smith and Off Cdt North accompanied OC UWAS, Sqn ldr Jamie Watson, to an event hosted at Cardiff University. The students delivered a presentation to The Chief of the Air Staff and other esteemed guests about life as a UWAS student.

Yesterday, UWAS’ student leadership team and staff hosted various command tasks as part of the weekly Training Night. All students had an opportunity to lead a team through a task, gaining experience and feedback that can be applied to situations at OASC.

Last week students attended a Christmas camp at MOD ST Athan, where they had opportunities to improve their fitness with climbing and swimming, in addition to carrying out command tasks. They also had the opportunity to make a start on the flying syllabus!

Today our students enjoyed a trip to the Afan Forest today organised by our GTI, braving some typical Welsh weather! Muddy conditions did not deter however, and our students developed mountain biking skills whilst out on Blue Scar, a popular blue biking route!

Last week our GTI organised the first of many AT activities on UWAS, starting with a trip to The Black Mountains. Students developed mountain craft and map-reading skills on a 23km hike around Fan Brycheiniog, reaching Llyn y Fan Fach and Llyn y Fan Fawr.

Tonight, UWAS hosted guest speakers representing the UWAS Association in addition to representatives from the RAF Benevolent Fund. It was a chance for students to learn about the UWAS Association and the fundraising opportunities available organised by the RAFBF!
