#HistoryFactFriday In 1949, Mr. George W. Newton founded Newton Instrument Company in Durham, NC. His company produced two anesthesia devices closely tied to that institution, the Duke Trilene Inhaler and the Fabian Newton Stephen (F-N-S) Fluothane Vaporizer.

#HistoryFactFriday American cardiologist, Paul M. Zoll, M.D. (1911-1999) pioneered both electrical cardiac resuscitation and cardiac monitoring devices. In 1952, he described a method for resuscitating patients by reorganizing the heart rhythm (defibrillation.)

#HistoryFactFriday Coal tar is one of the byproducts of industrial processes. It was claimed that inhaling the resulting fumes would cure numerous respiratory diseases (pneumonia, whooping cough, diphtheria). These claims were debunked by a report of the AMA in 1908
