UPDATE | A man has been arrested and the M42 has now re-opened after it was closed for several hours this morning. The 52-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order offences, affecting public infrastructure criminal damage & other offences.

#INCIDENT | We remain at the M42 following concerns for the welfare of a man on a bridge. The southbound side of the motorway is currently closed between junctions 4 and 5 at Solihull, as we seek to safely resolve the situation.

Road closures are expected to be in place for some time, and drivers are advised to find alternative routes.

The rider was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-changing. In a separate incident, a body found on the carriageway is not being treated as suspicious and we are preparing a file for the coroner.
