This is the most recent tornado of EF3 or greater strength to impact Wisconsin. Records show a decrease in these exceptionally strong twisters in recent decades. The update to the EF scale in 2007 adjusted damage indicators to account for the stronger construction of buildings.

4 YEARS AGO TODAY: Boscobel (Grant County) was struck by an EF3 tornado, with estimated max winds of 160 mph. Remarkably, no injuries were reported, though a house southeast of the city suffered extreme damage. Photos are from @NWSLaCrosse #wiwx

Today is considered the peak of the "dog days of summer." The dog days get their name based on astronomy. In ancient times, many cultures believed exceptionally hot weather was directly related to the appearance of Sirius - the "dog star." (1/2)
