This donation, presented by WHO Country Representative, Dr George Ameh to Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Mustapha Kabba, will support case management and diagnosis across three key mpox treatment sites: Lakka Hospital, Benguema Laboratory, and Hastings Treatment Centre.

Today, #WHO handed over critcal medical supplies, mpox test kits, and laboratory equipment including 5 refrigerators worth over $126,000 to the @mohs_sl at the Hastings Treatment Centre.

WHO supervisors visited Fourah Bay College campus in the Leicester zonal area, a high-risk zone in Western Area Rural, as vaccinations were underway. Their presence underscores the importance of quality, oversight & commitment to public health.

This marks a call to action for government, training institutions, partners, and regulators to align investments, coordinate efforts, and implement evidence-based policies to build a stronger, more resilient health workforce.

The HLMA is a critical tool aligned with WHO's Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health. It will inform strategies and reforms that ensure qualified, equitably distributed, and motivated health workers across all districts of Sierra Leone.

By working together, we can ensure that accurate information reaches every household, helping people protect themselves and their loved ones.

In Freetown, top media leaders joined @WHOSierraLeone and @slnpha to tackle misinformation, fear, and stigma surrounding the mpox outbreak. The media plays a crucial role in how communities understand and respond to health threats.

This engagement marks the first activity implemented under the pandemic fund and is an important step in strengthening the country’s health security system.

Dr Usman Kakay, Acting DHMO. Dr Ameh also visited the training of trainers session on event-based surveillance. He observed the proceedings and commended the participants, encouraging them to learn, retain, and apply the knowledge in their daily work.

On the second day of the mission to Bo District, the WHO Representative, Dr George Ameh, and his team visited and took a tour of the DHMT facility, where he assessed the mpox response, identified key challenges, & focus areas for support.

The WHO Representative Dr. George Ameh and his team are in Bo for the official launch of Sierra Leone’s operationalisation of the Pandemic Fund, which seeks to strengthen health systems, advance the One Health approach, and reinforce global health security.

The training is designed to strengthen national genomic surveillance of mpox by equipping 15 participants, including lab. scientists, public health professionals, & epidemiologists from across 🇸🇱, with practical skills in bioinformatics, genomic analysis, and outbreak response.

Sierra Leone has launched a five-day mpox Bioinformatics Training Program (June 23–27) at the Central Public Health Reference Laboratory (CPHRL), with support from the WHO in collaboration with the @mohs_sl, the @slnpha, and CPHRL.

Leadership, coordination, and speed will determine how quickly we bring this outbreak to an end.”.
