It's Friday afternoon & time for #doortotheweekend. And what better door to open than England's oldest... But of course there's some debate about where this is! The most popular answer is the chapter house door in #WestminsterAbbey in #London. The wood was felled in 1032AD... 1/

For Twelfth Night I made Twelfth Night buns. Available on the streets of eighteenth-century London for those who could not afford the huge decorated Twelfth Night cakes. Could these be a hit in our bakeries today? Bring back the Twelfth Night bun I say. Who's with me?

Dent's village museum also contains a victorian leather probang. This curious veterinary tool was invented by Walter Rumsey (1584–1660), a Welsh judge, royalist and member of parliament for #monmouthshire. It's used to help free food stuck in the gullet of horses or cows... 1/2

A lovely photo I stumbled across of children playing a very organised game of cricket on a small green in Yorkshire in the summer of 1936. When I posted this four years ago I received about half a dozen different suggestions as to where it was. Can anyone help this time?

Another gem in the #YorkshireDales is @WhiteScarCave. The cave's discovery story is interesting, but its the descriptions/likenesses of the stalactites, stalagmites, and rock features that really stand out... There's the Judge's head, the Devil's tongue, the carrots... 1/

Boosting another fantastic fact about Dent (and something you can see in the very first photo of this thread). https://t.co/kVt9LPkGcv

Portobello. The larger grave commemorates Marion and William alongside their daughter Margaret and another relative. The smaller grave commemorates Thomas, his wife Mary, and a string of children who died in infancy. The chain links parents & child in eternity.

Before the area was swallowed up by the city it was rural, with the separate seaside town of Portobello not far away to the east. It was near here, at Inveresk, that William Proudfoot was a farmer. His son, by Marion Stevenson, was Thomas Proudfoot. Thomas was a baker in...

One of my favourite paired gravestones, after this beautiful example, are this dour pair linked by a chain. They're sat in Duddingston Kirkyard. Today, this is part of Edinburgh, just beneath Arthur's seat.
