🧵I write about climate science, politics, international affairs, and a host of other subjects. Links in bio. Best thing about writing for the web? People who can show me where I'm wrong. It saves me the endless time I'd otherwise waste following blind alleys and wrong ideas.

🧵1/2 I posted earlier that Grokipedia claims that CO2 must rule the climate because 99% of the papers say so … it obviously thinks science is decided by a consensus vote. Here's my post about the limitations of AI when assessing science. https://t.co/2ly6HaoluE

I see that these days, lots of folks from Mamdummy on up think socialism is a brilliant plan. It's not. It has failed EVERY TIME IT HAS BEEN TRIED. Sadly, most folks supporting socialism have no clue what it is. For those folks, read the post below. w. https://t.co/Xznte9Pttk

Yeah … no. w. === The claim made in the tweet—that there is up to $6 billion in a contingency fund to provide SNAP/CalFresh benefits during shutdowns—is partially accurate, but requires very important context and is at the heart of a legal and political dispute. What is true:

There is a contingency fund that Trump and his lapdogs in Congress have claimed has run dry. That is a lie. There is up to $6 billion in that fund to provide SNAP/CalFresh benefits during shutdowns. Republicans are playing politics.

Nope. What's insane is that food stamp eligibility income limits are too high. A single guy making $16/hr ($32,000/year) and paying $1200/mo for rent plus utilities can get food stamps. And Amazon's entry-level is $23/hr, people working there on SNAP are part-timers. w.

What’s insane is that 44% American workers are paid less than a living wage by their employers, forcing them onto social safety nets like SNAP. SNAP subsidizes employers who pay poverty wages.

The problem is not the poor kid who gets $6 a day in food stamps. The problem is the Walton family, worth $469 billion, & Jeff Bezos, worth $247 billion pay wages so low that their workers need food stamps. The real welfare queens are the billionaires who pay starvation wages.

For the Democrats this isn't a bug, it's a feature. It lets them endlessly give money to their pals' NGOs that make megabucks "solving" these problems. If the problem actually gets solved, the NGO money dries up. Will it get solved? I'm sure you can follow the Benjamins. w.
