Mari Mullane is working as archival intern for the William Hubbard Collection. She loves this project because of the opportunity to create a finding aid for a new collection that will be useful for researchers of American history from the mid 19th through the late 20th centuries.

Spotlight! Caroline Draper wanted to work at the Starr Center because it was a great opportunity to use her skills in the real world. She interns on the National Homefront Project! Caroline loves sitting down with people who lived through WWII and listening to their experiences!

Spotlight! Braxton Berry is a new student intern with the Chesapeake Heartland Project. Braxton enjoys bringing African American history to light. He not only wants to highlight the past struggles of African Americans but also their collective victories and triumphs.

Katy Shenk is on the National Homefront working on the new education project. The project was inspired by Katy’s Explore America internship at @Gilder_Lehrman in NYC. Her time there prompted ideas about how to best utilize our collection of oral histories to educate students!

Since our students are awesome, we'll do our spotlights twice a week! Ana Reynoso is a double-major in sociology and Hispanic studies with psychology minor. She's currently interning with the Local Management Board of Kent County working on various community outreach projects.

Intern spotlight: Elizabeth Cassibry is well acquainted with all the secrets and stories of the Custom House after serving as a tour guide for 3 years! Elizabeth recently joined the Chesapeake Heartland Project to help unearth more about African American history in the region.

Dr. Wilson discussed the history of African Americans in Kent County+@washcoll. Artist Jason Patterson, 2019 Frederick Douglas Fellow, creates historical account of African American life in Chestertown and Kent County. He presented art for display in the Custom House Hubbard Room.

Intern Spotlight: Paris Mercier works to develop an oral history of the African American experience in Kent County through the Chesapeake Heartland Project. Paris would go back to the Black Power Movement to join the ranks of women who challenged gender inequity in the movement.

This week's Intern Spotlight: Jamie Morris ’21 is a double-major in history and business management. Joining the Starr Center in the fall of 2018, Jamie began as a researcher for an exhibit on the Port of Chestertown. Currently, she serves on the Multi-Media Production Team!
