Uxmal, the Spectacled Owl, is basking in the sun to absorb the rays. Sunbathing can help with feather maintenance, control ectoparasites, and produces vitamin D3.

Fresh, cool water is the best for cooling down in the summer. Costello the Emu was ready to bathe with or without a full bath, but Sprinkles politely waited his turn. Emus love their water, and in their native habitat Emus migrate based on water availability.

Watermelon is a tasty treat on a hot day!. Turkey Vultures, like Kinsey, will eat primarily deceased animals, but they will also eat some vegetation. They may be seen eating things such as pumpkins, berries, melons, and more. Do you have any favorite summer snacks?

With release time for eaglets 25-214 and 25-215 fast approaching, we've been exercising them daily in our 240' flight to help them get ready. We are hopeful for a release date in early July, after the majority of the fireworks have finished going off to allow them time in peace.

Did you know that ~40% of bird species migrate? Tools like eBird help determine if a species is still in our area after being injured on migration. If not, they need to overwinter with us. These Broad-winged Hawks were released in late April after 6+ months of care overwintering

What's that sound?. It's the sound seemingly stuck on repeat in our hospital. The sound that haunts our rehabilitation staff's dreams at night. It is the sound of Red-shouldered Hawk babies. With 18 injured ones in our care, it's getting rather loud here.

Chadder, the Laughing Kookaburra, is one of the many residents that you can see when you visit World Bird Sanctuary. She is the first bird on Avian Avenue and will sometimes alert the entire site that you have arrived!

What is sticking out of Cash's tail?.It is a radio transmitter and antenna! All of our birds that free fly wear a radio transmitter when outside of their aviaries. These transmitters are very important for if we ever lose visual on one of our birds from getting spooked.

We don't just take care of animals but our whole site, and one way to keep our environment healthy is by removing invasive plants. While one of his keepers was pulling invasives, Sprinkles decided to join in on the fun and "help."

One of the easiest "toys" to put together for our parrots is simply hanging the Yellow Pages in their house. Utilizing their beak is important to a parrot's mental & physical health as it promotes natural behavior, is enriching, and can help maintain their beak length and shape.

It takes Bald Eagles about 5 years to get their iconic white head and tail, but they start off all brown. Maverick is officially 2 years old so he still has a few more years of brown, but you can see in the video that his tail is mostly white at this point.
