Very exciting studies about crime in Brazil 🇧🇷
🇧🇷 How do cities like Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, and Recife deal with crime and policing, and what can we learn from Brazil as a whole? We explored these questions in our session yesterday at #ASCinDC25 thanks all my colleagues @Vitorgonbr #ASCriminology2025

Surprisingly, we found a decrease in reported cases during the first weeks of stay-at-home orders. This decline likely reflects the barriers women faced in reporting abuse while confined with potential aggressors, rather than a true decrease in victimization.

We found that both courts work as assembly lines, settled through informal ways. The difference is that, in the capital city, informal interactions are induced by institutional mechanisms, while in the interior, it has an eminently personal content.
