Celebrating Joseph Parry’s Birthday. Joseph Parry was born May 21 1841, in the bedroom of 4 Chapel Row, Merthyr Tydfil. He had grown up listening to the celebrated Cyfarthfa Band and singing as an alto boy at Bethesda Chapel.

220 years ago today Richard Trevithick's Penydarren locomotive successfully made the journey from #Penydarren to #Abercynon It is said to have taken 9 hours to complete and the weight of the locomotive meant the tracks kept breaking and Trevithick had to replace them himself.
