I stumbled across this beautiful humming bird sitting on her nest, suspended from a low hanging branch. Her nest was so low in the branches that I nearly brushed against her. I wanted to incorporate the forest into the scene rather than zoom in too close with my telephoto.

Wildfire smoke meant I nearly didn't do the hike to this spot, but really glad I did. The smoke actually provided a bit of additional atmosphere. Fingers crossed we don't have a Summer of wildfires this year though.

I stumbled (almost literally) upon this hummingbird on her nest. The environment was really important for me to capture in the image, I wanted to somehow show her size and fragility against the broader environment. Her nest is made of lichen, moss and spiders webs.

Ice study. All eight of these images were shot within a few minutes of each other in a location only a few feet apart. Sometimes when you are surrounded by an impressive, grand landscape, it's hard to notice those tiny compositions at your feet.
