This lecture will examine the implications of doing so, the historical examples of such laws in the past, whether they have worked to stop the criminals and how they could make the situation worse by causing more harm than good.

Ransomware has become a global problem that is affecting businesses worldwide and is costing billions of dollars in damages. In an attempt to stem the profitability of ransomware for the criminals, some governments are considering the legal prohibition of the payment of ransoms.
