Over 300 cadets took time this evening to participate in the 9/11 memorial stair climb in barracks. Led by the VMI Firefighting Club, this climb honors the sacrifice of first responders who climbed 110 floors in the World Trade Center, 19 years ago today.

Today, 491 matriculants reported to post, where they will begin the Rat Line. These rats will spend several months training with one goal in mind: earning the coveted title of 'VMI cadet.' VMI welcomes the 24 + 3 Rat Mass as they begin the journey of a lifetime.
More than 100 cadets and local EMTs participate in the 9/11 memorial stair climb this afternoon in barracks. The event, led by the VMI Firefighting Club, replicates the 110 floors climbed by 9/11 responders in the World Trade Center, 18 years ago today.

The yearly hike up House Mountain is more than a strenuous 5.5-mile hike with a pretty great view at the end, it helps to develop a sense of unity among the rat mass and is another step towards becoming a cadet.

The Keydets defeated the Citadel Bulldogs 34-21 Saturday in Charleston, South Carolina during the Military Classic of the South, bringing the Silver Shako trophy back to Lexington for the first time since 2002.
