Unpopular opinion about having multiple income streams if you are a freelance writer. It makes you and your ideas more interesting! Having some wildly different streams of income that are NOT writing isn’t gonna to make you boring or diminish whatever talent you have.

HEAVEN FORBID. Save us from those peasants who traffic in commercial fiction! . (I hope Philip makes a flippin' fortune writing romcoms, aka the most recession proof writing of all, and I hope this mean lady is attacked by every mosquito in the land this summer).
I was at a publishing party last night, chatting with a clear industry veteran, and when I mentioned I write romcoms she became sneeringly condescending. “I wouldn’t have taken you for someone who trafficked in commercial fiction,” she said, as if I were some kind of drug addict.
