it's important to unlock things, but I spent a whole Marathon session ignoring contracts and instead just building loot, PVPing and doing character/codex challenges in solos and it's the most fun I had so far I also discovered the Repeater, which is quite nice

I understand the genre is about managing items, but most loot feeds into quests & barter. Not enough is usable in-game Enemies w/ guns should drop guaranteed ammo. Heals are too rare & expensive when the punishment is downtime for using them. It shouldn't be obtaining them

Marathon will 100% improve over time, but right now, I think it's too unforgiving to 1) run solos, 2) rebuild and 3) meet a baseline of being able to engage at will. Combat and resources feel off until deeper into progression, and I think that could alienate non-dedicated fans

Thoughts on Marathon: + FUN + incredible aesthetics + immersion + solid onboarding + guns are neat and feel nice + solos exist - solos aren't balanced. damage, PVE battles, abilities, loot tuned around 3s - TTK is too fast on starter gear - ammo & heals loot too scarce
