Stalking is.Fixated.Obsessive.Unwanted.Repetitive .behaviour which may cause fear of violence, engenders alarm or distress. It can happen in person and online. It is more than harassment and should be taken seriously when concerns are shared.

The term "revenge porn" is a problematic and harmful term in itself, alluding to the idea that the victim potentially "deserves revenge", therefore there has been a move within society to using a more appropriate name of "Image-Based Abuse".

This abuse often takes place without the victim’s knowledge, and can include "deep fakes" which are digitally altered images. Acts commonly referred to as upskirting, downblousing, so-called ‘revenge porn’, collector culture and more are additional forms of image-based abuse.

Violence against women is sadly normalised and often unchallenged. The idea that there is ‘safe’ strangulation not only causes real life harm to women, but has also helped the men who try to use ‘rough sex’ claims.

This week at the @unilincoln has been Grace's Week. Grace was doing what any young woman should be able to do free from fear of men’s violence; travel, meet new people and explore; when her life tragically ended in 2018. Today's message is from Chief Technology Officer, Matt.

Women and girls are experiencing increasing levels of violence across private, public, and online spaces. More than 80% of women feel unsafe at night in their local area, compared to only 13% of men. Raised to be cautious. Raised to text their friends when they've made it home.

The campaign highlights the importance of the allyship of men to challenge pervasive attitudes and behaviours that lead to violence, and are harmful in themselves, including cat calling, sexist jokes, unsolicited photos, and invading personal space.
