The 10 year old kid at the beginning of our DnD game just now: "So, you guys hear the new Pope just dropped?"

Does anyone else feel like there's nothing wrong with the world that couldn't be fixed by a new Fugazi album? I feel like we really need a new Fugazi album. Or just a tour would be great. Thanks for attending my TED talk.

The other night I discovered “Vorpal” is not a scrabble word and I feel betrayed by my childhood. #DnD

What's the time a character said something at your table that you still remember?

I’m not a fan of DM versus player mentality but I do enjoy leaning into that trope when I want to get a rise out of the kids I DM. There’s nothing like letting out a good old fashioned “muah hah haaa” when a particularly nasty trap is triggered in the dungeon and they all scream.

I always like seeing DnD reach a mainstream publication like the NYT, but this article is pretty thin and doesn't say much beyond the headline. It's too bad because there's a decent amount that could be said without using it as fodder for the culture wars.

The role-playing game replaced “race” with “species” and divorced several character traits from biological identity. Some longtime players are upset (as is Elon Musk).

We've got one seat left for our LEGO themed DnD Camp starting December 26th! Once it's gone, we're full up. If you've got a kid in your life that would enjoy going on an adventure through a fantasy world of LEGO, this four session Zoom camp is for them! https://t.co/39wytqrW2e

Anyway, it was probably the only time I will ever experience that particular sort of dissonance, with a story I’d experienced a certain way and built up in my head, versus the complete version as intended.

It was kind of like reading a book then seeing a movie only much more profound because I was experiencing layers of media added on to my original experience. Imagine watching a new version of a film where all the visuals have changed. It was like that. /7

I had lived with that story a certain way in my head for so long not realizing that there was actually a whole other story, and then encountering it, I had this duality of the story I remembered versus the one that was intended. /6

I didn’t watch the movie till much later and then saw this whole other layer of story. A character was making that weird throat noise because they were being choked, not because they were nervous. That character said that line because another was showing them something. /5

As a kid I just kind of filled in these blanks with my mind, not realizing they were actual narrative oversights, because as kids we assume the world works in lots of ways we don’t understand yet and just sort of accept that. /4

The audio on the record was pulled straight from the film (I think it was somewhat edited) but often the characters were reacting to something that was happening on screen that was nowhere in the dialogue. /3

I listened to the record a lot as a kid and imagined all the characters in my head before ever seeing the movie. When I finally saw the movie there was a kind of dissonance I’d never experienced before or since. /2

Can we talk about this for a second? I had the Disney record for Robin Hood as a kid, which was excellent because it had all those great Roger Miller songs, but the way it narrated the story by just including the VO was kind of a trip. /🧵
@MattBaume He was also Bernard in the Rescuers! Which 7-year old me LOOOVED. I wore out the record! Also Disney used to put movies on records!
