The Navy loaned out our helicopter and pilots that took up Baldwin. Our very own Chief Desenzo was filmed gaving him instructions on holding on to the line before dropping in on the sub. It was HS-8, World famous 8 ballers.

No. It was a towing line, not a fishing line. She did sink a tug through. Unfortunately the tug entered the resstricted area towing with a longer than legal line with no running lights, but Houstonโs CO was still relieved.

Wow! I know "Big D" was the name Tom Clancy used in the book, but to purloin USS Houston as Dallas' stand-in was just cruel!

Served on Dallas from 97-01. She was my qual boat. Best memory was getting to chat with Tom Clancy in the galley while standing duty cook when he showed up for an impromptu visit in 1999. Go big D!
