Our three-day encounter w/#Batwa community, local leaders, incl. district officials, is aimed at touching base w/#Batwa in #Kisoro, to understand the daily reality & challenges they face, and build their capacities on #HumanRights, particularly on land ownership & accessibility.

While in #Kisoro, together with @UHRC_UGANDA, we listened to the #Batwa community – a marginalized group –raised awareness on human rights, and encouraged them to report grievances, including on land rights, to relevant authorities.

Article 221 of the constitution requires all security agencies to respect human rights & freedoms while performing their functions. The protection & promotion of human rights & fundamental freedoms are integral preconditions for regional stability & security. #Standup4HumanRights

The training will contribute to strengthen the capacity of @updf_ to meet human rights obligations while discharging their duties in compliance with relevant human rights standards & instruments like the UPDF Code of Conduct &Human Rights Enforcement Act 2019 #Standup4HumanRights

The four-day High-Level Human Rights Training for @updf_ Senior Officers has commenced at the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre in Jinja in partnership with @UHRC_UGANDA aimed to refresh their knowledge on relevant human rights applicable to security. #Standup4HumanRights
