Neutrons in heavier nuclei tend to bulge out beyond the protons in the nucleus, forming a "skin" - the thickness of this skin is the subject of a new paper in Phys Rev Lett this week. Prof Krishna Kumar is co-spokesperson for the experiment, PREx-II at Jefferson Laboratory in VA.
