Picnic entertainment included Jenga, cornhole, and a raffle to raise money for Casa San Jose which raised over $400.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Labor Day last week! We marched with union members from across Pittsburgh at Labor Day Parade. Later that afternoon we held our Local 9562 Labor Day Picnic in Schenley Park. Check out photos taken by UMW’s own Ohad Cadji.

The Local 9562 Events Committee will host another board game night at Mimics Market on Thursday, August 28th. Join us from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at 4707 Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield. You can bring your own game or use the games provided in Mimic’s library. There will be snacks!

This is a free private tour for our local union only. The Women of Steel Committee will organize carpooling to the Carrie Blast Furnaces. The address for the National Historic Landmark is 801 Carrie Furnace Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15218.

Rivers of Steel has developed a new walking tour of the Carrie Blast Furnaces called She Worked in a Mill, which focuses on of women in the history of the steel industry. Any member of UMW can join the Local 9562 Women of Steel at the tour on Sunday, August 24th at 9:30am.

Our Local 9562 Events Committee will host another Labor Day Picnic at the Vietnam Veterans Pavilion in Schenley Park from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. The picnic is open to all, friends and family included.

Labor Day, arguably the most important holiday for union members, is just a few weeks away! As usual, all members of UMW are invited to march in the Pittsburgh Labor Day Parade in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon at the Local 9562 Picnic.

As usual, this meeting will be your opportunity to vote on how we spend our union dues. Make your voice heard! There will be snacks!

All members are encouraged to attend, especially since we will distribute the amazing Local 9562 t-shirts we voted to purchase at our last meeting! Any member who attends the July meeting in person will get a t-shirt while supplies last.
