Why do search experts peer review? Time limitations, actual lack of expertise, perceived lack of expertise, lack of opportunity and lack of incentive #uhmlg24

How much do you peer review line by line? Or do you look at the search in a more holistic way & consider 'Would this have found what they hoped it would find?' It depends on what stage you are reviewing at. Early on could be line by line, entire manuscript more holistic #uhmlg24

The example we used today may not be ideal to train someone who isn't experienced with searching - e.g. MESH headings can be difficult to discuss without being able to demonstrate. #uhmlg24

When peer reviewing do you need to provide solutions? Can you say 'it's bad' and leave it at that. Depends on the situation and what you are saying. If you are just rejecting you may not need to give much else, but if you are reviewing a protocol this would be different #uhmlg24

Lessons learned: Sometimes not having the subject knowledge can actually be a strength - could give a lack of bias and also can help make the process more collaborative #uhmlg24

Lessons learned: Felt like we needed to try some parts of the search out at times. Lack of knowledge of the subject can be tricky so you may need to do some research to feel better able #uhmlg24

Why is expert peer review of searching important? Information specialists should be involved in peer review because they have a unique and specific set of skills that can help address "\rigour and research waste" CHLA/ABSC, EAHIL, ALIA-HLA, MLA, 2020 #uhmlg24

It's important to emphasise that when we're dealing with searches often only the entire manuscript will be peer reviewed - but if the search itself were reviewed earlier on this could improve the process considerably #uhmlg24

After an insight into the 'neural networks' that make up AI, we've been trying the same prompts on a few generative AI tools. Different results for different people - and different answers whether or not you say 'please'! #uhmlg24
