Virtual particles can get stuck due to low model resolution near coastlines. Our newly released Parcels v2.3.0 code has multiple options for 'slippery' boundary conditions: 'linear', 'partial' and 'free' slip. This helps get particles unstuck on complex coastlines as #NewZealand

We've made a lot of progress in our group in understanding how plastics spread through the ocean, but we also investigate other ocean processes. Some are climate-related, so it's good to participate in related discussions!.
