The UE Policy page has been updated with the resolutions passed at last week's 78th UE Convention: UE policy is set by rank-and-file delegates to our national convention in the form of resolutions that are discussed and debated on the convention floor.

Following the adoption of “Aggressive Struggle,” delegates, alternates, guests and staff closed the convention by joining hands and singing the labor anthem “Solidarity Forever.” (7/7)

Delegates named aggressive struggle — mobilizing the membership instead of relying on legal processes — as the most effective way of winning fights with the boss, as a way to transform people’s consciousness, and as the best way to change the world for the better. (6/7)

…and “Stand Up for the Rights of Immigrant Workers,” passed on Tuesday, these policy resolutions reflect UE’s core principle of uniting all workers. The final resolution considered by the convention, “Aggressive Struggle,” embodies another one of UE’s core principles. (5/7)

…and a peaceful and livable planet to leave to their children. During discussion on the resolution “End Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity” and “Disability Rights,” several gay, transgender & nonbinary UE members spoke movingly about their struggles…

Taken together, these resolutions outline a comprehensive vision of a future in which all working people have good jobs and safe workplaces; housing, education, healthcare, and a secure retirement; the freedom to speak their mind without fear of retaliation… (2/7)

On the final day of the 79th UE Convention, delegates debated and passed resolutions on jobs, peace, healthcare, civil liberties, public education, climate, and the economy. (1/7)

…and the hard work they put in for decades to make UE what it is today. (10/10)

UE members lined up at the mics to express their appreciation for the service of the two UE officers, thanking them for their willingness to make themselves available to members and to engage with differing opinions, their commitment to UE and to rank-and-file unionism… (9/10).

At the close of the day’s session, delegates adopted resolutions honoring General President Carl Rosen, who will be retiring at the end of his term, and Director of Organization Mark Meinster, who chose not to run for re-election. (8/10).

Secretary-Treasurer Dinkelaker gave a thorough financial report, and delegates took action on recommendations from the Publicity and Education and Policy Action Committees. (7/10).

Delegates also attended to organizational matters, adopting several constitutional amendments and considering a resolution recommended by the Constitution Committee outlining steps for the union to review and improve the process for national officer elections. (6/10).

At the end of the morning, leaders of the Northwestern University Postdocs Union announced that they had won their NLRB election to join UE by a margin of 515-13. They were greeted with a standing ovation. (5/10)
