This is another crucial step in our fight for equity for all students at the @uofcalifornia. Given UC’s agreement, we hope CA SCOTUS will either order the Court of Appeals to hear it on an expedited basis, or take the case itself, as we requested. /end.

As the Regents wrote:. "The @UofCalifornia system is one of the most rigorous, vibrant, & diverse academic institutions in the world. That is due in no small part to the talent, experience, & contributions of the University’s approx. 4,000 undocumented students." 3/.

Per the @UofCalifornia Regents’ answer: “Not only do undocumented students deserve equal educational employment opportunities, CA deserves to benefit from the educational and professional training that paid student employment would provide these talented students." 2/.

A decision foreclosing re-parole will have devastating consequences. We’ll continue to defend CHNV in court. We also call on the Admin to act with the same courage & compassion it showed when it started this program 2 yrs ago by reversing course on this change to the FAQ. /end.

CHNV program beneficiaries have become integral members of our communities – sharing dinner tables with loved ones, supporting their neighbors, joining churches, & contributing to our economy. 10/.

Venezuela & Haiti have level 4/4 travel advisories and Nicaragua’s is at a level 3—the same they were when program was announced. Does the Admin really believe these ~193k people should buy one-way tickets to the very same places it tells the rest of us not to even visit? 9/.

Still, for those who *are* impacted, this update is cruel and pointless. When the Admin started this program 2 years ago, it was out of recognition of the severe instability in these 4 countries. By State Dept’s own metrics, conditions have hardly changed. 8/.

But as we know, no program is one-size-fits-all. Some beneficiaries may not need re-parole or any other pathway to longer status at all bc they may already intend to leave once their parole expires. 7/.
