How many tens are in 109? 🤔 If we only teach digit value in an H-T-O chart, we miss out on the flexibility that comes from number sense + place value! These students grouped their items into 10 groups of 10 + 1 group of 9 = 109 — and also knew they had 109 ones. 🙌
