I look forward to the progress of this great grape @USDA_NIFA project. Congratulations Margaret @UAFruitBreeding and Renee @UarkFDSCClub! #NIFAImpacts
Muscadines, a native grape, and Vitis vinifera, the grapes most commonly consumed in the US, each have traits the other needs for improvement. A national effort to hybridize the two species was awarded a $7M grant by @USDA_NIFA: https://t.co/hu1DQNc1zx

Also doesn't hurt that it's sunny and 80 degrees outside instead of 100 degrees!

Blackberries have both citric and malic acids, with citric usually a bit higher than malic. We have a GWAS hit for pH near an ALMT9, which seems promising... If ALMT9 were a candidate gene for subacid flavor, would you expect reduced malic acid only or reduced citric too???
