UFPR members represent 90M+ U.S. workers—nearly 2/3 of all private sector jobs💼. That’s why we're fighting for high quality patents & fair access to the PTAB. Low-quality patents & abusive lawsuits drain resources that should go to job creation & U.S. economic growth.

🚨USPTO changes are making it almost impossible for U.S. businesses—from retailers & hotels to automakers—to fight invalid patents. The perpetuation of bad patents is a tax on innovation and drains resources from day-to-day operations, hurting job creation and the U.S. economy.

The America Invents Act has improved U.S. patent quality—but it's under attack by patent trolls and third-party litigation funders looking to exploit bad patents for profit against productive businesses. All sectors of the U.S. economy and our global competitiveness are affected.

.@USPTO is limiting access to IPR, leaving retailers with a bad choice: pay patent trolls or fight a long, costly court battle. In @InsideSourcesDC, Mike Lemon lays out how Congress and the PTO can #StandWithMainStreet and support American commerce:

Joe Matal knows a fair patent system is vital for U.S. national security. We can’t let bad-faith foreign actors like Huawei weaponize bad patents against American companies, stifling U.S. manufacturing and innovation. We must keep critical tech made here to secure our future.

The PTAB is important for all industries. As Karin Hessler of @AccessibleMeds noted at our patent panel, the generic drug industry relies on it to challenge patent thickets and deliver lower-cost medicines to patients faster. They can’t do that without the PTAB.

Huge thanks to @RepGoodlatte for moderating our patent panel. He stressed the need for a patent system that rewards true innovators—not trolls or foreign actors abusing it for profit. A crucial discussion on protecting innovation, the U.S. economy, and national security.

Tara Hairston of @autosinnovate emphasized that PTAB and post-grant review are mandated by Congress and vital for a strong patent system. U.S. companies depend on PTAB to build and innovate right here at home. Denying PTAB challenges for discretionary reasons harms all industries

Mike Lemon of @NRFnews knows that without PTAB access, retailers could face lawsuits over basic tech like Wi-Fi or mobile apps—with no way to fight back. That’s a tax on Main Street, hurting how businesses serve customers and slowing the broader economy.

The patent system should work for Main Street businesses, not against them. This is why UFPR asked Congress to preserve the PTAB, increase transparency in litigation funding, and protect customers. #StandWithMainStreet More:

We care about a balanced, effective patent system because we see the harm low-quality patents cause firsthand. Across the U.S., Main Street businesses are targeted with abusive litigation from patent trolls that hinders economic growth and stifles innovation. #StandWithMainStreet.

Congress laid the foundation for strong patent quality by creating the PTAB. The PTAB helps Main Street fight abusive litigation and supports the U.S. economy. We look forward to working with John Squires and @USPTO to build on this progress.
