I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, backwards compatibility is HARD.
On the other: I am literally just Ctrl+Fing my code to replace "mysql_connect" with "mysqli_connect."

The saying "all that glitters isn't gold" can only be inferred to mean "gold does not glitter." It says nothing about things that are not gold, except that they are not gold. Change my mind.
