This was an 8-9 team last year. Do we really think this team is worse than the 2024 version?. Every division game is winnable in a wide open AFC South. I see Steichen delivering in a got-to-have-it season and even getting to 10 wins.

Under Gus Bradley the Colts were oversimplified on defense. Tons of single high looks and a league leading rate of cover-3. With Anarumo we’ll see more variation in coverage and with that d-line I can see this unit thriving. He constantly did more with less in Cincinnati.

I’ve always been one that prioritizes investing in the trenches and when healthy I think this team is top-10 at those spots on both sides of the ball. But I’m equally excited to see Lou Anarumo give their secondary a new lease on life.

What I’m most excited about is the defense. Kwity Paye, Grover Stewart, DeForest Buckner and Laiatu Latu is a defensive line that rivals any in the league. Latu was top-30 in pass rush win rate as a rookie. While Stewart and Buckner graded as top-10 run defenders at DT.

When Josh Downs and Tyler Warren are going to be your best weapons in the pass game that can’t be the case. Is the ceiling high? No. But under Steichen this team will actually have an identity they can latch onto.

Simply put Daniel Jones is a better fit for this offense. An offense that wants to run the football behind Quenton Nelson and Bernhard Raimann. But Richardson’s mobility was not worth being completely unable to complete passes in the intermediate areas of the field.
