Our sourdough starter turned 4 today. No name, but it’s part of the family. When it’s sluggish, we give it a spoonful of Tyla Glas honey—and boom, it’s back. Still bubbling. Still brilliant. #SourdoughStarter #HoneyBoost #OleaKitchen #TylaGlasBees

We thought the supers were nearly empty. Turns out “a few bees” meant “a few hundred”😅 Car alarm going off nonstop. Bees flying laps. Me in a cast, playing doorman with the aircon on full blast. Car now smells of honey and beeswax. Lesson learned: don’t leave supers in the car

A rare sight at Tyla Glas Bees — all supers off! We’re prepping for varroa treatment, and by law, we can’t sell honey that’s on the hive during this process. So everything’s off to keep it pure 🍯 Some pallets buckled under summer’s weight and heat — winter upgrades incoming!

Big thanks to John for helping take the last supers off the home apiary while I supervised from the car. Had to swap to my car for the bigger boot… still a few to squeeze in!Can’t wait to extract and taste this year’s autumn honey 🍯Next week: the out apiary. #localhoney

One of our late August splits—headed by a bought-in, marked queen—ran out of stores and didn’t survive. Two out of three splits in this apiary didn’t make it. With my leg in plaster, I couldn’t get back to feed them. That’s beekeeping. The rest are looking strong.

First autumn crop of the season at Tyla Glas Bees 🍯 Still in plaster, so I watched from the passenger seat while John from Mel Nantyglo fitted clearer boards to the hives. Supers off soon, varroa treatment next. Trefforest apiary up next.Good mates. Good bees. Local graft.

Our bees were active today, making the most of the warm autumn sunshine in the Rhondda 🌞🐝 There’s still plenty of balsam flowering nearby, but no signs they’d been foraging there. Instead, we spotted the first hints of ivy pollen coming in—a sure sign the season’s shifting.

Big thanks to John of Mel Nantyglo (mel = honey in Welsh) for checking one of our apiaries today while I’m grounded with a leg in plaster. All colonies thriving—including the 3 nucs from recent splits. No pics today, so here’s one from earlier in the season. Diolch 👏

Injured my foot last week. No surgery needed, but I’ll be in a cast for 3 months. Was worried about the bees—but the support from beekeepers across the UK has been staggering. Messages, offers of help, even from people I’ve never met. Genuinely humbled. Thank you.
