This is exactly what I am doing right now. Put out all the figures together, put the captions below and write down the information that my data are trying to tell me. It works and it is fun!
As a student, drafting your first manuscripts is tough (and you will notice that your advisor will almost entirely rewrite them). A hint: prepare all the figures first, put them on your desk, and start telling their story. It works! No need to worry about the intro at this stage!
