Hurricane #Erin has reached Category 5. Fortunately, it's not expected to make landfall but to deflect northwards before reaching the Turks and Caicos or the Bahamas. πŸ‘‰ https://t.co/TDzrC2zYVz #Hurricane #HurricaneSeason #hurricanetracker

After the preliminary report on Air India's 171 flight, the question that remains is: why were the switches flipped? All options seem equally unplausible: accidental flip (not easy on these switches), intentional flip (suicidal pilot), system malfunction. #AirIndiaCrash

An example of the high safety standards in aviation: planes need to carry enough fuel (1) to divert to the most distant alternate airport and then (2) to continue flying for 45 more minutes. Regulated under 14 CFR Part 121.639 https://t.co/gheP3YbAFy #fearofflying #avgeek

Is Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) dangerous? No! CAT is just an umbrella term for any kind of turbulence that "cannot be seen with the naked eye". Even if we cannot see it, most CAT can be predicted well by turbulence forecasts. More of this in our book πŸ“š https://t.co/gheP3YbAFy

You can know everything about aviation safety and still feel anxious on a plane. Why? Because knowledge alone doesn’t reduce fear β€” exposure and knowledge do. And for exposure to work, you need to master relaxation techniques. More on this in our book πŸ“š https://t.co/gheP3Yc8v6

Severe turbulence is rare, but planes are built to handle it β€” with a 50% safety margin over expected stress loads. This is required by law. In the US: 14 CFR Part 25.303 regulates it. More on this in our book πŸ“š #fearofflying #aviation https://t.co/gheP3Yc8v6
