The same Nigerian lecturers who say "the girl were tempting dresses" or "she seduced me" will leave Nigeria to lecture abroad where students show much more skin and will not sexually harass anyone. Because the system doesn't give them power and there are consequences.

Fun story about the Dahomey (Amazon) Ahosi. When the French defeated the Dahomey, they took some of the Dahomey Ahosi to their tents as spoils of war. At night when they were spent, the women would wake up and bite their throats off. The French stopped taking Dahomey women

For most of us in our 30s and 40s, our parents held more assets and were taking care of a lot more people (larger nuclear families plus extended family members) on one hustle. Today, we're on multiple hustles, hold fewer assets and still struggle to take care of smaller families

The fun thing about being on these fuel queues in Lagos and Abuja is that, you are likely to have a smiling billboard or poster of the candidate of the ruling party right in your face as you sit there drenched in sweat.

Until the British came, the monarchy of Lagos was firmly under the control of the Benin. The British effectively took over in 1851. In the 1820s, Oba Idewu Ojulari of Lagos committed suicide upon receiving a sword and a skull (what we can an aroko) from the Oba of Benin.

Nigeria's dysfunction makes the simplest things stressful. Getting Money from an ATM Booking a flight and knowing it will fly Buying fuel Dressing well and going out Getting your certificate from your university Things that should be routine. Stress.

By the way, this letter is written with English words, but it's really communicated in Yoruba. It's why it feels somehow when you read it in English. Once you read the Yoruba behind it, it begins to make clear sense

Over 100 hundred people in Plateau did not get the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas today. They were murdered in their country, in cold blood.

As we carry on, remember that all your big private companies obeyed a ministerial directive, not a law, and has shut down access to twitter. In reality, Nigeria’s private sector is not private.

PDP's behaviour post the 2023 defeat is exactly the same as PDP's behaviour after the 2015 defeat. Both from the offline politicians and online supporters. Zero lessons learnt I see.

So, it appears the Oyo Alaafins had an all female warrior guard similar to the Dahomey Amazons but specifically for guarding the Alaafin. Hardly gets mentioned in most sources, but I've found it in two sources now. Interesting how these women's stories were buried

This is not a purely Nigerian problem by the way. It's a global one. But as is usual, in Nigeria, the order of magnitude of the problem is much greater.
