I’m walking into Saratoga for the first time and a flabbergasted fellow is walking out with his hands on his head. He mutters some gals name (couldn’t catch it) followed by “… is gonna kill me when she finds out how much I lost today.” He didn’t even make the Early Pick 4!.

Sovereignty was viewed as a pace-dependent closer this spring. In the Belmont, he sat closer to the pace than ever before. So now he's stamina-loaded, fast AND versatile. Subtitle: He’s a major problem for every horse in the division this summer and beyond.

Sovereignty’s stride under the finish line looked they were just going by for the first time. Complete domination.

My creative @PreaknessStakes idea is to use American Promise. In the Derby he got caught in the crowding inside and sat just off the fast pace. I think you could argue he needed the race and his best figs put him in the mix. It’s not like Lukas is winless here!.

If you remove Sovereignty, Journalism wins the @KentuckyDerby and is likely sub even money in the @PreaknessStakes. Even with the bizarro world betting of late, he still feels like a solid overlay come post time.

Journalism doubters questioned the field size and if he and @umbyrispoli could manage it all. Despite a rough start, it was a peach of a ride. Unfortunately for them, Sovereignty was tailing them the whole way and was just the better horse on the day.

Burnham Square was in a great spot until Admire Daytona, on the cusp of retreating himself, sawed him off at the half-mile pole triggering a check & prolonged loss of ground. He went from 8th to 12th before re-rallying to finish 6th. Where does he finish with a clean trip?.
